In this paper you should do the following primary things.

One: Provide a very brief discussion of the content of the folktale (no more than ½ a
page).
Two: Address the historical origins of the folktale.
o Where did it come from?
o How was it passed down?
o Who has historically told the story? Why?
Three: Analyze the cultural issues, concepts, values, and institutions reflected in the
story utilizing information about the story, its style, etc. as part of your discussion
o What cultural concepts, values, and issues does the story address?
o What cultural institutions are involved in the story and how?
o What messages does the story express about cultural issues, concepts, and values?
o Why would a folktale address these things? What is their importance in the culture?
o If there are variations of the folktale, why? What does that reflect about the culture and
its history?
Failure to complete either section two or three will result in a grade no higher (and likely
lower) than a D. Carefully follow APA style guidelines within the text as well and be
very sensitive to any issues of plagiarism.
