1. Write the quote verbatim on the left hand side (remember to cite in MLA format with page numbers)

Also, our Parental Rights response is due on the 19th. The assignment is below.
2022 has seen a skyrocketing number of banned and challenged books, from Texas to Pennsylvania to Florida. After reading “Right to Read” and a variety of parents’ positions on the subject, your job is to place yourself in the center of this argument, creating a rational platform for best practices of moving forward with childhood literacy in this charged environment.
In this thesis-driven paper, your job is to synthesize arguments with your own ideas. Your job is to integrate ideas from all the authors’ positions into your own unique, coherent argument about the idea of parental rights in education. How much control should parents have over reading curriculums? At what age should students control their education? Should teachers and librarians be treated as educational professionals or as perpetrators of a wider social agenda?
Your essay should touch on one or more of the themes mentioned above. Other than having a thesis, you MUST integrate quotes from AT LEAST two sources.
Academic writing is about contributing to an ongoing conversation, so it may be useful to consider ways that you are adding to the current conversation about this topic. You don’t need to do any outside research for this paper (don’t worry—research is right around the corner!) but you should be thinking critically about the author’s ideas and responding to them with your own logical insights.
If you have questions about your paper, you are always welcome to setup a time to discuss your work during my office hours. You are also welcome to set up a time at The Writing Center, where you can work with a consultant at any stage of the writing process.
Your final papers should be 3 pages in length, formatted according to MLA standards.
