Works Cited/Annotated Bibliography Assignment instructions
Works Cited/Annotated Bibliography Assignment instructions
Due: October 7th @ 11:59PM–moved back a week from date on syllabus
Clearly break your paper into two sections: Part 1 and Part 2. Labeling each section(Works Cited) (Annotated Bibliography) will help clearly define each part. There should be only 8 sources on your paper for each assignment, do not use 8 different ones for the next assignment. You will only use these 8 sources to write your paper. As always, if any questions please contact me:-)
Part 1. Identify the difference between primary, secondary and tertiary source. Using correct grammar and sentence structure, write 3-5 sentences explaining why each source is a primary, secondary or tertiary source. Cite each source correctly using CMS(Chicago Manual Style) or MLA and then explain each source. This will help you get a better understanding of your sources and give you a great jump on your thesis, your outline will then basically write itself.
Directions: Part 1 and Part 2 will be using the same eight sources. I used two examples using two different sources, book and online.
Part 1. Using the MLA or Chicago Manual Style, create a Works Cited Page/Annotated Bibliography using eight sources, made up of three to five primary, three to five secondary, and only two tertiary sources.
Example of identifying primary, secondary, tertiary sources:
Bell, Derrick. 2004. Silent Covenants: Brown v. Board of Education And The Fulfilled Hopes For Racial Reform. Oxford: University Press.
Part 1. Silent Covenants is a secondary source, even though Bell uses many primary sources through out his book. By using a mixture of court cases and research make this book an secondary source. His four decades of research into the Brown v Board of Education shows that many black schools were functioning well and not a ineffective state of public schooling. He shows that Brown actually enraged a society of people and energized its opponents.
Part 2. In part of the assignment, you will give approximately 75-150 words summary of each source. By the time you have completed this assignment, you will know exactly how you want your paper to work and will have a strong thesis in your mind. This will then help your outline really write itself for the next assignment. Do this for all eight of the same sources from above.
