1. Why does this provocation interest you? Why would it interest children?
This provocation interests me because it helps the children learn different ways of patterning. In the classroom that I work in, the children love this activity due to the fun color combinations they can do with the colored blocks. The different patterns I have the children do are AB, ABB, and ABC patterns to help them have a better understanding of sequencing and patterning. This provocation would interest children by having them incorporate their favorite colors into the patterns. As a fun activity afterward, I always have the children make a structure of their own using the same pattern sequence they used. This activity is also a great way for the children to work on their fine motor manipulative skills!
2. What science or math domain/strand, and foundation this could provocation teach?
This provocation teaches from the Mathematics domain/strand and the Algebra and Functions (Classification and Patterning) foundation. Based off the PLF Math Map, this provocation is based on children around 60 months and they are expanding their understanding of simple, repeating patterns (CPIN, 2008).

I saw this image and chose it right away. I absolutely love these blocks. my daughter has had them since about 1 and still plays with them at 6. I think they are great for many different things. I think the bright colors and all the different ways to use them would really interest most kids.

I think this would probably fit into Math, Mathematical reasoning. they would have to learn ways to stick them, which piece shapes would fit best where, and can use them for other math activities like counting sorting and other things.
