I will paste here what my professor’s instructions were:
“The goal of this assignment is to learn about a different culture or explore a culture differently and in a nuanced way. Drawing from theories, ideas, and concepts covered in the course and our readings, you will interview someone and write about your intercultural interaction. Discuss the experience. Which culture/identity did you choose to explore? Why? Was a there a separation between their culture and aspects of your lived experience? How does the culture see itself in relation to other cultures according to their experience? How are values enacted/reflected/ communicated within the culture? How is this culture similar to or different from your own experiences? What are the basic foundations of the culture? This assignment encourages you to learn about other individuals and/or groups. You may interview a colleague in this class – this is a fantastic option. Many students chose to interview a fellow student – they were among the best submissions I have ever received for this particular assignment. The goal is to step outside your comfort zone and learn from this experience beyond mere superficiality. You will submit an I.C. project idea (worth 10 points) and a final outline (worth 10 points) in order to receive feedback and to ensure you are on the right track. If you turn this into an academic research paper, it is an automatic “0” for this assignment; if you write about your own experience, this does not meet the criteria (Journals #1 & #2 are about your own identities) and it is an automatic “0”; finally, if you use a family member or friend, this is a “0”. Your paper for this assignment should be no less than 4 pages!”
I do have 2 sources of my own to be cited within this, I will paste those here.

But I do need 2 more sources required regarding military child identity.
I already went ahead and conducted an interview, I’ll paste here the questions and the responses from my interviewee (her name is Grace Brackett)
1.) Identity Development
Questions I asked:
What was your sense of identity growing up? When did you start to establish your own identity and tie them in all together?
Her response:
When I was living overseas I identified as a US citizen/American because everyone identified themselves by their nationality. When I came back for either during school breaks or when we were posted here, though, I didn’t feel like an American. Everyone else was talking about tv shows we didn’t get on afn (the tv network for military overseas) or listening to music I hadn’t heard of etc. Just a lot of cultural things I wasn’t in on. Aside from cultural things I also didn’t have a long term group of friends. The longest time I’ve been friends with someone (non family) was 2-3 years. My whole childhood I was sort of grasping at anything I could use as an identity. I don’t think I really developed my own identity until covid hit. It forced me to look inwards and think about who I am when I’m not comparing myself to Americans here who have lived their whole lives in the US. I still don’t really identify with a specific nationality or culture, but I identify more with Non Americans than Americans overall.
2.) Acceptance in different social groups
Questions I asked:
What was it like in terms of acceptance in the different social groups? Did you feel accepted? Why or why not?
Her response:
Overseas, I never really felt accepted in social groups at school. I think the biggest reason for that was because I was always a year younger than everyone else in my grade. It also didn’t help being neurodivergent and not knowing a lot of social things most people know. In the US I still didn’t feel accepted for the same reasons but also because I wasn’t as American as everyone else. Again I couldn’t relate to sports or music or tv shows or really most cultural things. (Just a quick history thing so u know what I’m talking about
Tunisia is the first place I have really memories. I was here from 5-7. I spent ~1.5 years here.
Then we went to central va after the evacuation bc of the terrorism.
Germany was next. We spent 3 years there. That was the longest time I had been in a place before Springfield.
Then Ghana. 1 year there.
Then here. 5 years and counting.)
I had friends in Tunisia and germany and some in Ghana and central va, but I think after germany I got tired of Making friends and leaving them so I stopped trying. Same thing when we moved here in 8th grade. I became more introverted which meant less people wanted to be my friend.
3.) Stages of identity & acceptance of self as an individual
Questions I asked:
What were the stages of your self acceptance? Stages of identity development where you started establishing yourself? Were there events that helped you in this?
Her response:
My identities throughout my life have been American (nationally not culturally), girl, and jewish. A few years ago I started identifying as bi and neurodivergent. I never struggled with accepting any of these traits/identities. Re neurodivergent: when I was young I thought I was weird so when I discovered that I could have adhd/autism it helped me feel better about my different qualities and therefore accept them and feel better about myself. Again, quarantine helped a lot with accepting myself and creating a stronger identity
