Business is about external environments, internal environments, stakeholders and how they interact. It is vitally important that you keep up to date with world and business issues which affect not only business interests, but each of us personally. This assignment is designed to familiarize you with current issues in Canadian and world business and to further develop your research and analytical skills.
The Assignment is due Oct 12, 2022 and must be submitted on-line in Blackboard.
Step 1: Choose Two Topics
• Choose two topics from two different chapters in your textbook: Introduction to Business for BAM101, OER 2019
• Browse your textbook, the contents pages, or the index pages to choose your two topics.
Step 2: Search for Two Articles
• Complete the Business Research Tutorial to learn how to search for articles and prepare a Works Cited list.
• Search for two articles using any of the following databases:
o ABI/Inform
o Canadian Major Dailies
o Canadian Business and Current Affairs
• Article Requirements:
o Quantity: You must find two articles.
o Topics: Find one article for each topic that you selected from your textbook.
o Material Type: You must choose magazine or newspaper articles.
o Word Count: Both articles must be between 400 and 1200 words.
o Date: The articles must be published after Sept 01, 2022.
o Source: Articles must come from the Seneca library database. Articles directly from newspaper or magazine websites are not acceptable.
? Examples of Newspapers: The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star.
? Examples of Magazines: Report on Business Magazine, Economist.
o Attach/Include a copy of each article at the end of your assignment that includes its title, publication date and name of the newspaper or magazine. (This must be included in your on-line submission in Blackboard along with your assignment – do not just provide links.)
Step 3: Complete your Assignment by using the Template
• Find the Template document in Blackboard under Part C: Assignment and Template.
• Complete each section of your assignment according to the following instructions:
Title Page: This is the first page of your assignment and includes: assignment title, your name, your student number, course code and section, date, and the Professor’s name.
Summary (x2): Write a summary of each article in your own words. Each summary must be approximately ½ page. Include the title and publication date of the article. There should be no opinions expressed in a summary. Do not copy the abstract of the article. Tip: In order to express the facts in your own writing style and words: read the article several times, jot down key facts and then write your summary without looking at the article, only at your notes.
Business Topic Analysis (x2): For each article, identify the topic and chapter number to which it relates. In two or three paragraphs, discuss how the article relates to the topic in the chapter. This will demonstrate your understanding of the topic and the article.
Business Terms (x2): From each article, list one relevant business term. Provide the course textbook’s definition for each business term and the page numbers for those definitions.
Personal Impact (x1): Write approximately ½ page on the personal impact of this assignment. You will write one personal impact statement for this assignment. This personal impact statement must be on a new page. Here are some questions to answer when writing this:
• What did you personally learn by completing this assignment?
• What did you like about the research component of the assignment?
• Why did you select your particular topics and/or articles?
• Add any comments or opinions here.
• Do not give details about the articles.
Works Cited: The Works Cited page lists your two articles and your textbook in MLA Citation Style. This is the last page of your assignment and starts on a new page. The entries for your two articles will show that you found them through a library database. If you use an automatic citation generator to create your Works Cited list, you need to check your work for accuracy by consulting the Seneca Libraries MLA Citation Guide.
Appendices/Articles: Include your articles as Appendix 1 {Title of Article} and Appendix 2 {Title of Article}. Alternatively, the Articles can be submitted separately with the Assignment as attachments.
Step 4: Checklist
• Find the Checklist document in Blackboard under Part D: Checklist.
• Review the checklist to ensure you have completed the requirements of this assignment.
